Touchpad & TV remote

4 questions

The characters that arrive are not the ones I typed.#

JoyLink sends US keyboard key codes. If the host uses a different keyboard layout, some symbols come out differently — switching the host's layout to US fixes it. For Chinese, Japanese and similar languages, switch the input method on the host, then type the pronunciation here.

The remote can't turn the TV on, switch inputs or use voice search.#

Bluetooth disconnects the moment the TV powers down, so the power key can switch it off but never on. Input switching, voice search and launching a specific app all need the TV maker's own protocol, which Bluetooth cannot carry. TVs with an infrared-only remote are out of reach altogether.

The touchpad or remote keys do nothing, but the gamepad works.#

Simple mode is most likely on — it keeps only the gamepad. Turn it off under Settings → Connection.

Can I control an iPad or iPhone?#

With the touchpad and keyboard, yes. An iPad accepts a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard directly; on an iPhone, first turn on Settings → Accessibility → Touch → AssistiveTouch. Gamepad mode is not available in iOS games — that is a limit set by Apple.
